Cossu Photography is led by Gionata Cossu, an Italian photographer recognized for his work in South Asian weddings, Jewish celebrations, and destination weddings in Tuscany and the Riviera Maya. With over 20 years of experience, Gionata is known for his emotional, photojournalistic style that blends natural light, editorial beauty, and cultural storytelling.Originally from Italy, Gionata built his reputation as one of the top wedding photographers in Cancun, immersing himself deeply in Mexican and American culture. He founded his first brand, Jonathan Cossu Photographer, in 2014, quickly becoming a trusted name in the Riviera Maya wedding industry, especially for Hindu, Sikh, and multicultural weddings.
In 2016, his personal and creative journey evolved when he met Giselle, an Argentinian photographer, who became both his partner in life and art. Together, they captured love stories across Mexico and beyond. But in 2020, Gionata felt called to reconnect with his roots. That journey led to the rebirth of his brand as Cossu Photography, embracing his Italian name and identity.Today, based in Tuscany and working across Italy and Mexico, Gionata and Giselle specialize in destination weddings, elopements, and multi-day South Asian celebrations. Their work has taken them to Florence, Val d’Orcia, Lake Como, Cancun, Tulum, Los Cabos, and many more dream locations. At Cossu Photography, every wedding is more than an event it’s a story. And we’re here to tell it with authenticity, artistry, and heart.

OUR LOVE STORY
How We Met
Gionata and I met about four years ago, when I was on the lookout for a very particular camera. My best friend and neighbor, at the time, knew someone who was selling just the camera I needed, and like any good friend he made the introduction. Now, if you’ve watched enough rom-coms… you can probably guess the camera owner was Gionata. He’ll tell you he fell in love at first sight, but I will tell you I didn’t give him a moment’s notice.
For me, our story began one morning when Gionata and I both found ourselves at our mutual friend’s house. We were chatting lenses, exposure, cameras, and to keep it light… we also discussed ideal love, how we envisioned our other halves, or… perfect love, if you will. It was in that moment, when I heard him speaking in his charming Italian way, that he won me over.
Later that day I had a photo shoot, and as I drove to the shoot I recorded an audio message intended for my close girlfriend. The message described my perfect morning. It included a detailed explanation of the Italian with the camera and how handsome he was, to just how much I wanted to go on a date with him. Just my luck, or perhaps it was destiny, as I accidentally sent the message to Gionata instead of my friend. I had no idea. I didn’t come to realize where the message was delivered, until I was about to start my session.
Gionata replied saying I really had no way out. He asked me out to the movies, to dinner, to lunch, and even tea. Needless to say, the rest is history and we now have a beautiful Italian, Argentinian, Mexican family. The best part of our story is that we share a love for capturing destination weddings and I had fallen in love with one of the best wedding photographers in Cancun.
