Karishma and Rusty’s Hard Rock Riviera Maya Hindu wedding was a multicultural destination celebration in Mexico that brought together their Indian and American backgrounds. Their wedding was filled with family, friendship, tradition and the joyful energy that defined their relationship.
After postponements caused by the pandemic, the couple finally gathered their loved ones at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in 2022. Cossu Photography documented their celebration through candid moments, emotional portraits and story-focused Indian wedding photography.
HOW KARISHMA AND RUSTY MET
Karishma and Rusty met at a bar in Austin while spending time with mutual friends from Google, where they both worked. They quickly discovered their shared love of hockey.
Watching hockey games together soon developed into concerts, hiking, discovering restaurants in Austin and spending time with friends. Their connection grew naturally through the interests and experiences they shared.
In 2018, Karishma decided that their relationship had become serious enough for Rusty to meet her family. The meeting went so well that, by the end of the weekend, their conversations had already turned toward possible wedding venues.
A ROOFTOP PROPOSAL IN AUSTIN
Six months after meeting Karishma’s family, Rusty surprised her during a girls’ night out. He interrupted the evening and proposed on a rooftop in Austin overlooking the building they knew as the Owl Building.
The proposal was personal and connected to the city where their relationship had developed. It marked the beginning of a new chapter and the celebrations that would eventually bring their families together in Mexico.
Karishma and Rusty later married in a small civil ceremony in a park in St. Louis, Missouri, where Rusty is from. Their families were present to witness the occasion.
The ceremony took place shortly after the St. Louis Blues won their first Stanley Cup in decades, adding another connection to the couple’s shared love of hockey.
A WEDDING POSTPONED BY THE PANDEMIC
Karishma and Rusty planned to hold their Indian wedding celebration in 2020. The Covid pandemic changed those plans and forced them to postpone the gathering more than once.
After waiting for the opportunity to celebrate safely with their families and friends, they selected 2022 for their Hard Rock Riviera Maya Hindu wedding.
The postponements made the final gathering especially meaningful. Their destination celebration was not simply a wedding event. It was the moment when the couple could finally bring everyone together and share the traditions, happiness and relationships that formed their story.
THE MEANING OF RED MIRACLE WEDDING
Karishma and Rusty chose #RedMiracleWedding as their wedding hashtag because it combined the meanings associated with their names.
Rusty represents “the red one,” while Karishma means “miracle.” Together, these meanings created the Red Miracle Wedding.
The couple believed it was remarkable that a man from St. Louis and an Indian woman from Miami found one another in Austin, Texas. The hashtag became a personal expression of their relationship and the unexpected journey that brought their lives and families together.
A MULTICULTURAL INDIAN WEDDING IN MEXICO
This Hard Rock Riviera Maya Hindu wedding celebrated the meeting of two backgrounds through an Indian destination wedding in Mexico. TheIt was an opportunity for the couple’s families and friends to participate in a celebration shaped by culture, personality and shared experiences.
The photographs focus on the relationships surrounding Karishma and Rusty. The embraces, reactions, laughter and quieter interactions between family members help communicate the full story of the celebration.
For Cossu Photography, documenting a multicultural wedding means understanding that the ceremonies and traditions are connected to real people and family histories. Each event must be photographed with attention, respect and awareness of the moments that are most meaningful to the couple.
HARD ROCK RIVIERA MAYA HINDU WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
Karishma and Rusty selected a South Asian wedding photographer after discovering the photography portfolio online and connecting with its approach to Indian weddings.
They chose I Do Celebrations and Shaadi Destinations to help plan and organize their wedding events at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
The celebration was photographed through a combination of documentary storytelling and composed portraits. The documentary images preserve spontaneous reactions and emotional moments, while the portraits show the couple, their attire and the tropical surroundings of the destination.
The result is a complete visual narrative rather than a collection of unrelated photographs. Every part of the gallery contributes to the story of the couple, their families and the celebration they waited so long to share.
