Hard Rock Riviera Maya Sikh Wedding

Robin and Rick’s Hard Rock Riviera Maya Sikh wedding brought together Indian, Mexican and American influences during a vibrant destination celebration in Mexico. Surrounded by their families and closest friends, they celebrated their story through meaningful traditions, colorful clothing, joyful dancing and an emotional Anand Karaj ceremony by the sea.

HOW ROBIN AND RICK MET

Robin is Canadian Indian and was born and raised in Canada. Rick is Mexican American and comes from Los Angeles, California. Their paths crossed in 2011 while they were attending optometry school in Puerto Rico.

They immediately became friends, and during their four years of school together, that friendship gradually developed into love. After graduating, they moved to Texas to begin their careers and build their life together.

Rick proposed in 2019. As a couple who love traveling and discovering new places, they also chose to celebrate their engagement with a photography session during a trip to Turks and Caicos.

A MULTICULTURAL DESTINATION WEDDING IN MEXICO

For their wedding, Robin and Rick wanted a destination that reflected their personalities and gave their guests the opportunity to celebrate together over several days. They selected Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, a lively resort on Mexico’s Caribbean coast.

Their Hard Rock Riviera Maya Sikh wedding united traditions from both families. Every event offered a different atmosphere, while the complete celebration remained connected by the couple’s warmth, energy and strong relationship with their loved ones.

The festivities began with a Jaggo night that included the Mayia ceremony, Choora ceremony and a joyful Jaggo party. Music and dancing filled the evening as the two families celebrated together with the familiarity and affection of one large family.

The colorful clothing, traditional details and spontaneous interactions created countless opportunities for documentary wedding photography. Rather than interrupting the natural flow of the events, Cossu Photography focused on the gestures, expressions and connections that revealed how much the celebration meant to everyone present.

THE BARAAT AND MILNI

The following morning began with the Baraat and Milni. At 10 a.m., Rick and the wedding guests paraded through the resort accompanied by drums, singing and energetic dancing.

The Baraat brought movement, sound and excitement to the beginning of the wedding day. It was also one of the clearest expressions of the joyful personality shared by the couple and their guests.

The Milni created another meaningful moment as members of the two families greeted one another before the ceremony. These traditions transformed the wedding into more than a celebration of two people. They represented the connection between two families, cultures and personal histories.

ANAND KARAJ CEREMONY BY THE SEA

The Anand Karaj, the Sikh marriage ceremony, followed on a beautiful wooden terrace overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The natural setting provided a peaceful contrast to the energy of the morning procession.

During the ceremony, Robin and Rick honored the spiritual meaning of their commitment while surrounded by the people who had traveled to Mexico to support them. The combination of the coastal location, traditional clothing and emotional participation of their families made the ceremony one of the most significant parts of the entire celebration.

After the Anand Karaj, the guests enjoyed a Punjabi vegan lunch. This relaxed time allowed everyone to reconnect before the afternoon portraits and evening festivities.

WEDDING PORTRAITS AT HARD ROCK RIVIERA MAYA

Once Robin and Rick had rested and regained their energy, they explored different areas of the resort with Cossu Photography. Their portraits highlighted their beautiful wedding attire while preserving the affectionate and playful way they naturally interacted.

The tropical vegetation, architectural spaces and Caribbean light offered several distinctive settings within the resort. The resulting photographs combined carefully composed portraits with candid moments that reflected the couple’s personalities.

A RECEPTION UNDER A STARRY SKY

After another wardrobe change, Robin and Rick joined their guests in the ballroom for their wedding reception. Delicate decorations transformed the interior into a romantic setting inspired by a starlit sky.

The evening also included a Mexican folk presentation created to honor the country where they chose to celebrate their destination wedding. The performance introduced their guests to elements of Mexican culture and added another meaningful layer to an already multicultural weekend.

Following the presentation, Robin and Rick shared their first dance. Soon afterward, their guests joined them on the dance floor and the celebration continued with music, dancing and plenty of emotion.

DOCUMENTING A FUSION SIKH WEDDING

Robin and Rick’s wedding demonstrated how a destination celebration can respectfully bring different backgrounds together. Sikh traditions, Indian heritage, Mexican culture and the couple’s shared life in the United States were all represented throughout the weekend.
