This Indian wedding in Riviera Maya was a vibrant celebration filled with emotion, tradition, and unforgettable moments. Surrounded by the tropical beauty of Mexico, Annette and Deepak brought together family and friends from around the world for a destination wedding that beautifully reflected their cultures, personalities, and love story.
Their story began in the Bay Area, California, when Annette, from San Francisco, met Deepak, from Palo Alto. They were working at a pharmacy when their friendship gradually grew into something more. From the beginning, they kept their relationship private, often traveling together while finding creative excuses to explain their trips to friends and family.
Deepak never officially asked Annette to be his girlfriend. Their relationship simply evolved naturally. He felt comfortable introducing her as his girlfriend, and before long, he found himself down on one knee proposing. Annette and Deepak always followed their own rhythm and never felt the need for outside validation. They had already been together for three years when they became engaged, surprising many friends and extended family members with the news.
When it came time to celebrate their commitment, however, Annette and Deepak wanted to bring everyone together. They first married in California with a simple celebration, saving the larger festivities for their South Asian destination wedding in Mexico.
They chose Casitas Royale in the Riviera Maya and invited family and friends from around the world, including guests traveling from Venezuela, Canada, the United States, China, and India.
As photographers specializing in Hindu and South Asian destination weddings, we have documented celebrations across different cultures and destinations. Annette and Deepak’s wedding was particularly meaningful because of the way they brought their Chinese and Indian backgrounds together throughout three days of celebrations.
Their wedding included many of the traditions that make Hindu weddings so visually and emotionally rich. The festivities featured a Mehndi ceremony with intricate henna by Loto Mehndi, a colorful Pithi ceremony, an energetic Baraat celebrating the groom, and a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony.
Annette embraced Deepak’s Indian heritage throughout the celebrations, wearing beautiful traditional outfits complemented by henna and jewelry. Every event offered a different atmosphere, from intimate family moments to the energy and color of the larger celebrations.
The couple also honored Annette’s heritage with a meaningful Chinese Tea Ceremony. Deepak participated in the tradition alongside Annette, creating another beautiful moment where their two families and cultures came together.
Documenting an Indian wedding in Riviera Maya over several days allows us to tell much more than the story of a single ceremony. It gives us the opportunity to photograph the traditions, family relationships, spontaneous moments, changing outfits, celebrations, and emotions that together create the complete story of a destination wedding.
Throughout Annette and Deepak’s three-day celebration, our documentary approach allowed us to capture these moments naturally while also creating portraits that reflected the beauty, color, and atmosphere of their wedding.
Their photographs tell the story of two different cultures coming together, surrounded by the people who mattered most to them. We couldn’t have been happier to document such an important chapter in Annette and Deepak’s lives.
